FREE Training
Train-The Trainer (T3)
YMCA Camp Seymour, March 2003

Experience Based Learning, Inc.® conducted a totally FREE training for 16 professionals from the experiential, adventure, and counseling professions. This training was conducted over a week long event, just outside of Seattle Washington at YMCA Camp Seymour. Participants from New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Indiana, Washington, Tennessee, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois converge to participate in a three day advanced parishioners Train-The-Trainer workshop, followed by two days of general ropes course technical training.

"This opportunity for professionals is unequaled by any other organization. It stands for our commitment to give back to the industry and help other practioners advance their skills and craft of group facilitation. The offering helped us reach our goal of over $30,000 in offerings and/or scholarship funds since 1997. Because the training was so well received, we are currently planning on offering the event again in late 2003 or 2004."

Mr. Gustafson speaks to training and development issues, as well as activity-based learning designs to reach an entire audience. Mr. Gustafson is quoted providing a case study involving two international companies, working together on a joint project.

Sky Radio Network provides business, technology, health and entertainment programming to some of the largest airlines in the world, including United, American Airlines, Delta and Northwest. Shows are magazine style -- a blend of CEO Interviews, Industry Spotlights and major business trends. As with any magazine, each show contains a Lead Cover Interview as well as a variety of ongoing features, spotlights and special interest topics.

Challenge Adventure Korea
Seoul, South Korea, March 5 - 22, 2002

Experience Based Learning, Inc.® is awarded a ropes course construction contract in Kyung Ju South Korea. Lead by Steven R. Gustafson, MS, EBL ® traveled to South Korea to assist in the project having received endorsement by the government of South Korea.

While onsite, the EBL crew worked through translators, converted rough ideas into construction concepts, and delivered construction services in extremely challenging conditions. "When working on a project overseas, you learn quickly not to take anything for granted, from tools and electricity, to basic understanding of cultural words and interpretations," Gustafson states.

"It was a great experience and we have made many new friends. I would jump at the chance to travel back to assist on future projects," Gustafson says.

Mr. Gustafson has been involved with wilderness trips and team building services since 1984. He completed a WEA NSP course in 1988 through the Western Illinois University ECOEE program and has since lead outdoor trips in over a dozen states. Currently, he owns Experience Based Learning, Inc., offering corporate team build workshops and a full range of ropes challenge course services. His service to the development of the WEA website and marketing materials over the past five years has been greatly appreciated. Mr. Gustafson also serves as an Advisory Member to the WEA Board of Trustees.

Chicago, IL, November 3, 2000

Experience Based Learning, Inc.® owner Steven Gustafson was guest speaker at the annual Collegiate Entrepreneurial Organization (CEO) conference held at Navy Pier on November 3, 2000 in Chicago, IL. Gustafson presented a workshop on small business entrepreneurship and technology; focusing on Internet marketing strategies. The workshop presentation was well received with over 800 students representing 100 national universities in attendance. The mission of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization is to inform, support, and inspire college students to be entrepreneurial and seek opportunity through enterprise creation.

Speaking on e-Business marketing, Gustafson spoke to the audience on search engine advertising, placement ranking, website content formatting, and Internet advertisements. Gustafson spoke in an open forum which allowed for numerous questions about e-Business marketing. Gustafson stated, "You first need to examine the websites of the potential clients you wish to service, then format your company profile and advertising to match the clients image you wish to draw. Don’t be afraid to ignore market segments that will not support your services. Develop a plan, focus your energies, and don’t look back."

EBL, Inc.® president Steven Gustafson provided interview content on professional development initiatives for individuals working in civil service jobs. Mr. Gustafson explained the format of "outernships" which is a method of professional development for employees in other organizations.

A more typical approach to learning is an internship, usually resulting in full time employment. However, a professional in a civil service job may not be looking for employment. An outernship is a means for a professional to devote time to an organization, gain meaningful insight to current best practices, and return to their current job. The employer gains volunteer services for a short duration, ranging from 2 - 12 weeks.
