Consultative Services:
Chemical Company, Industrial - Information Systems - International / Mid-West
This company had some minor conflicts and EBL was retained for a "team building" day. During the intake process, it became apparent that more issues may come to light than what the management team was aware. The senior management received a half day workshop followed by a full day of team building for the rest of the division. During this workshop more information was presented about a much larger issue of conflict and a strong distrust amongst the team was shared. EBL was able to facilitate an open forum of information gathering and sharing which resulted in a "clear the air' session. Since the workshop, there has been a shift in leadership and team productivity is improving. The first thought of team building ended up being a low cost, diagnostic tool that uncovered the larger issues for resolution. EBL received very positive comments from the management team for our professional handling of the situation, our flexibility, and our ability to sort out the issue in a speedy manor.
Aerospace - New Project Work Team - Canada
This case study involves bringing a new project online. The
project manager approached EBL® with concerns surrounding the various
tangents of effort, finger pointing, and deadlines not being realized. This
particular project encompassed two different international companies from
the United States and Canada, which were merging together on a joint project
to service an independent third company.
The workshop lasted for one day and consisted of 18 international
participants. After delivery of our Decision Making Styles© model and a
couple of other learning models, the project team members better understood
different "individual styles" and began to realign job tasks to better
maximize the talents on the team. Furthermore, we were able to overcome a
level of distrust between the two different companies to accelerate the
project timeline and elevate a sense of understanding and respect between
the project team members.
Banking / Finance - Vision and Values - East Coast
This organization gathered together for a strategic planning session, which
was to last three days. The CEO, CFO, EVP's, and managers were flown in from
across the United States, totalling 55 persons in all. EBL was retained to
dovetail exercises throughout the three-day business session.
Day One, EBL provided some icebreaker, getting-familiar-with-others
exercises, lasting for approximately two hours. These exercises consisted of
outdoor ground-based exercises.
Day Two, EBL provided structured workplace simulation problems, allowing the
members to achieve success. The successes validated company best practices
and highlighted the influence of the company's seven core values on its best
practices. This was a half-day program consisting of outdoor ground and
off-ground exercises that included a rappel and a rope traverse across a
football stadium.
Day Three, EBL provided a one-hour wrap-up session for all attendees. In
this final session, the meeting session information focusing on the
company’s core values and the learning experiences from the EBL session were
reinforced. The overall success of the three-day strategic planning session
was enriched by dovetailing interactive exercises throughout the entire
process.
Chemical Company, Retail / Consumer - Plant Wide - Mid-West
This project revolves around recent year's mergers and acquisitions (M&A). The plant was experiencing low productivity between buildings and lacked professional support between reactor facilities. EBL was retained for an intake, front and back side custom survey, a workshop for the management team of 20, then roll out the agenda for the rest of the plant employees of 75. This approach gained an increase in understanding, sharing a common goal, and fostered a culture of respect. Further, the Decision Making Styles and Team Performance models were delivered to provide a common language for employees to reference towards and make benchmark goals and timeline. The management team received a follw-up workshop and the back side survey was distributed to measure increased plant performance. The results were favorable.
Event-based Workshops:
Radio - Sales Staff Renewal - Mid-West
A regional radio station was experiencing internal conflict and competition
between the three different platforms supported by the station: AM, FM, and
Country broadcasting. The GM was seeking a non-threatening way to have his
sales and administration teams work together for the common good of the
entire station, not just a particular platform.
The group’s program consisted of 24 individuals for a one-day event. After
working with the three different platforms on various tasks, a new level of
understanding was achieved. Participants discovered that each of the three
platforms shared common themes and benchmarks with the other two platforms.
Once this realization was publicly discussed, we delivered a Decision Making
Styles survey. The results allowed group members to realize that the sales
force members focused more on black and white issues. The administration
members focused more on processes, and the management team was focusing more
on station vision and new ideas. A strong appreciation was created between
the participants and action items surrounding communication were addressed.
Pharmaceuticals - Annual / Regional Conference - South West
This workshop was conducted at an off-site venue in the Southwest. Over 125
persons were in attendance for this two-day regional conference. EBL
provided a Keynote Speaker for the morning of day one, lasting approximately
two hours.
EBL provided team building exercises on day-two for about four hours. EVP's,
managers, and sales staff were all present. One of the largest challenges
was to keep everyone engaged for the duration. This was viewed as a highly
educated group with the majority of attendees possessing advanced college
degrees and/or doctorate degrees. On the formal evaluations following the
conference, EBL rated a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale for valued added. Our Keynote
Speaker received a 3.2 on the same 4.0 scale.
Religous Organization - Annual Conference - East Coast
This organization wanted something different for their annual retreat. Being a non-profit they had a very limited budget for their group size of 400 individuals. EBL was retained to deliver a Train-The-Trainer session for 20 of their staff, which in turn, would turn around and facilitate their conference of 400. This allowed for a small group model to be exercised while a smaller EBL staff of 5 helped oversee the entire event, handle opening and closing activities, and provide side line coaching for the newly trained facilitators. The model was a huge success and EBL has been requested for follow-up workshops.
